A groupon for LASIK? That sounds like a really bad idea right? $1895 for both eyes sounded pretty good to me though. I talked to the company and idea of upgrading to the intralase and customvue for an extra $1000 seemed like a good idea. It's my sight after all. I went ahead and bough the groupon. I thought it odd that they had surgery on groupon and wondered if they might have invisalign too... so I googled it. There wasn't a groupon, but there was a deal on livingsocial. $2999 for invisalign! Crazy! My dentist quoted me $5500. I bought that one too... AmEx definitely loves me this month. I went ahead and scheduled my LASIK for about a month out. I was pretty nervous but kept my mind off it pretty effectively. Somehow I manage to worry more about my relationship than my eye being cut open. November 4th was the big day. The most stressful part for me was the idea of wearing glasses for a week before the surgery. I've NEVER worn glasses.. I had contacts since I was 7 because I am entirely too vain to wear glasses. Like an idiot I went out drinking the night before, which may not have been the best plan for me.
The day of the surgery they gave me half a valium and I thought.. half? wtf is this? You're about to cut my eye open! They gave me another half and within a few minutes I didn't care about much. They gave me a stuffed soccer ball to squeeze and I laid down on the operating table. They put some suction cup on my eye and lowered a light toward my face and in seconds it was done. I felt nothing. Completely painless. Then they sent me on my merry way with a mask taped to my face and an envelope of Xanax to keep my unconscious for the next 24 hours. The Engineer took me home and put me in bed then went to his mom's house to work. He came back every 3 or 4 hours to wak eme up, feed me and feed me another xanax. My nurse :) He even left a note for my roommate telling him not to disturb me, which I found very cute.
I woke up the next morning and I could see! There were really significant halos on every light, but with sunglasses on my vision was perfect. It was unbelievable to me that a disabilty I've had for 21 years can be cured in seconds. My vision is officially 20/20 according to the eye doctor at my follow-up.. and could even improve over the next days and weeks. Driving at night is a bit scary because of the halos, but I'm told that will subside soon. Hopefully it will. Even with the halos I have no regrets. I love that I don't ever have to worry about contacts again. I can see, it's a miracle!! Now I'm excited to get my invisalign and have straight teeth. I get those Monday :)
